Over 50 companies have signed an open letter condemning the Texas law banning abortion of an unborn child when a heartbeat is detected.
Among the companies who signed the letter are Yelp, Lyft, Ben & Jerry’s, Stitch Fix, Patagonia and Seventh Generation.
An organization called the Don’t Ban Equality coalition released the letter this week, which claims the so-called Texas "Heartbeat Law" is “bad for business” and a “threat” to their employees and customers.
LifeNews posted the full list of companies that signed the document, based on a report from The Hill.
The letter makes a rather bold statement for abortion, which is surprising given the country pretty roundly split over its moral and legal standing. “Restricting access to comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion, threatens the health, independence and economic stability of our employees and customers,” the letter says. “Simply put, it goes against our values and is bad for business.”
As you might expect, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Reproductive Rights are all supporting the letter. The Tara Health Foundation provided funding for the project.
