In the
days leading up to the Nevada caucuses, Hillary Clinton resorted to her
old ways. Not deleting emails or whipping up a Southern accent, mind
you, but the former Secretary of State is back to channeling her inner
elderly Latina.
Earlier
this year, we bore witness to the "Hillary Clinton is Like Your Abuela"
social media promotion, in which her campaign tried to convince Latino
voters that "Grandma Hillary" was just as loving and caring as their own
grandmother (known as an "abuela" or "abuelita"). Needless to say, it
failed miserably. It even inspired a Twitter hashtag, #NotMyAbuela, allowing Latinos to let Hillary have it over what many dubbed "Hispandering."
Despite
that mess, Clinton went right back to the "Hispandering" well this past
week, tweeting out various statements in Spanish in order to win votes.
Ay caramba, this senorita is clueless!
Among her tweets were this one, proclaiming Republicans cannot be allowed to win the next election:
And then there was this little diddy, a tweet that conveniently forgot that Clinton had voiced support for massive deportations in the past.
In the end, the "Hispandering" had little effect. Even though Hillary
Clinton won the caucuses, Bernie Sanders won the Hispanic vote.
