Chicago Mayor Launches Hateful Attack on Kayleigh McEnany - Trump Campaign Responds

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is facing a pandemic of violence in her city, and yet took the time to attack White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany for bringing it to light.

The controversy erupted Thursday after a reporter questioned McEnany about President Donald Trump's ability to address police violence against black Americans.

"The president has routinely acknowledged and expressed the absolute atrocity of the case of George Floyd, and his heart goes out to that family still," McEnany said.

"He was noting a fact, that there were, when you look at unarmed killings with police interactions in this country, that you had nine unarmed black individuals who were fatally shot, and 19 unarmed white individuals, that's down from 38 and 32, respectively, in 2015, so numbers have actually come down since the Obama administration," she said.

She then pointed out that the greatest threat of violence against black Americans comes not from the police, but from their own communities.

"He (Trump) was making that point....that black men and women who die of homicide, they are likely to die of homicide at eight times greater than that of white individuals and Hispanics combined. That's the rate combined," McEnany told the press.

"So that's an extraordinary thing that we want to look at," she said. "I've listed for you the names of these kids who died across this country. It is unacceptable, and under this president, he'll take action and the derelict mayor of Chicago should step up and ask for federal help, because she's doing a very poor job at securing her streets."

That seemed to set off Mayor Lightfoot, who has been criticized for not acting quickly on the wave of violence that has killed dozens of innocent people, including many children. She was, however, quick to respond to to McEnany on Twitter.

"Karen, watch your mouth," she said in response to McEnany's comments.

Lightfoot has demonstrated a pattern of lashing out against criticism, and her thin skin too often takes her focus away from the violence in the streets.

In response to the Lightfoot tweet, Trump 2020 campaign digital director Gary Coby tweeted back "Black people are being murdered at a record rate in Chicago. The violence and death is out of control... 64 shot & 11 killed just last weekend. 373 have been killed just this year, a 35% increase."
