By Monday that story had gone down in flames.
The report by the Times claimed "Former President George W. Bush won't support the re-election of Mr. Trump, and Jeb Bush isn't sure how he'll vote, say people familiar with their thinking."
The Times story claimed that Trump had lost the support of a number of Republican leaders.
However, Freddy Ford, the spokesman for former President Bush, told The Texas Tribune in an email statement on Monday that the story was completely fabricated.
"This is completely made up," the statement said. "He (Bush) is retired from presidential politics and has not indicated how he will vote."

Despite some criticism of his policies by President Trump, President Bush has stayed largely silent on President Trump directly.
