Denham: Conservative values demand immigration reform

Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) represents one of the largest Latino districts in the state, even though conventional wisdom states Latinos don't vote for GOP candidates. Perhaps it is because Denham doesn't let his values sway, and stands up against the anti-Latino rhetoric that has consumed some attention-seeking Republican politicians.

In a recent column for Roll Call, Denham moves beyond the shrill hyperbole and points out, very efficiently, how restrictive immigration regulations hurt families and negatively affect farmers and the agricultural industry, which he knows well. He points out that conservative economic principles demands we address the issue with sensible reform.

Calling all Houston Hispanic Republicans!

If you're a Hispanic Republican living in the Houston area, there are people you should meet. Republican Hispanic Citizens in Action is looking for someone like you! Here is a description of their group via their website: "The Republican Hispanic Citizens In Action (RHCIA) is Houston’s most active and fastest growing Republican Hispanic Organization. For more than three years, the RHCIA has been building a foundation of committed individuals interested in conservative government and promoting Republican candidates. Identifying the need for an active grass roots Republican Hispanic coalition, our founder Bernadette McLeroy started with a small group in January 2008.

"This perseverance and a lot of hard work have translated into a strong and united nucleus of dedicated individuals ready to take the RHCIA to its next level of hyper growth and activism. The time to get involved is now."

Hispanic Republicans: Minorities among minorities

I've recently had the chance to write some political stories and columns for Yahoo News. One of my recent columns concerns the rise of Latinos in the Republican party. Despite the rancor over illegal immigration, they do exist, don't believe what Harry Reid says. To read the column, click right here.
