Donald Trump
has taken a bizarre stance in the ongoing saga of Michelle Fields, the
former Breitbart reporter who was manhandled by Trump’s campaign manager
Corey Lewandowski when she tried to ask him a question. Trump’s new
spin: Fields was actually attacking him, and Lewandowski was protecting
him, like a knight in shining armor. Or something.
In a press conference with more scary
reporters on Tuesday, Trump pushed the “I was the victim” narrative.
“She came after me…she grabbed me,” Trump insisted to reporters. In a
series of tweets Tuesday afternoon, Trump reinforced the idea. “Why is
she allowed to grab me and shout questions? Can I press charges?” he tweeted out Tuesday afternoon.
Amazingly,
Trump appeared on Fox News’ Hannity Tuesday showing a selectively edited
surveillance video clip of the Fields incident (provided by Trump) that
appears to show him pulling away from Fields as if she grabbed him.
Hannity never questioned Trump’s story or bothered to show the full
video. However, as Michelle Malkin’s Twitchy.com proved, Trump’s story doesn’t match the full video.
Although Trump said Fields grabbed him, the
full video shows Trump was not actually pulling away from Fields, but
was actually reaching into his coat pocket. Trump actually tweeted out this photo as proof she grabbed him, exclaiming “Why is this reporter touching me as I leave news conference? What is in her hand?”
Of course, Twitter responded with disbelief and laughter.”My God. Textbook sleeve-knuckle,” Daniel Foster tweeted. “That’s no pen. It’s a battle station,” Lachlan Markay joked regarding the scary thing in Fields’ hand.
Remember,
folks. This is the guy who is promising to be tough on ISIS and the
border, and yet is always claiming to be victimized by women like Megyn
Kelly and now, Michelle Fields.
Despite Trump’s claim that Fields changed
her story, her original statement matches the video. She claimed that
after trying to ask Trump a question, Lewandowski grabbed her arm and
nearly pulled her to the ground, which is seen in the video.
Sean Davis may have summed up the entire ridiculous affair by tweeting out this question to Trump: “Baby need a safe space?”
