'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Scandal' creator Shonda Rhimes joins Planned Parenthood board of directors

Shonda Rhimes, the woman behind the shows "Grey's Anatomy,” “Scandal,” and "How to Get Away With Murder," has been an outspoken abortion advocate for some time. She has been a key supporter of Planned Parenthood for years, and now, she has taken a big next step.

Rhimes will now serve as a member on Planned Parenthood's national board of directors. She took the seat after it was personally offered to her by Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards, daughter of former Texas Gov. Ann Richards.

As LifeNews.com reports, Rhimes' support for Planned Parenthood extends to her television shows, which act as platforms for the pro-abortion agenda.
Two years ago, her show “Scandal” drew massive criticism after it celebrated main character Olivia Pope’s abortion to the tune of “Silent Night.” The episode was a sickening hour-long “advertisement for Planned Parenthood,” Alexa Moutevelis wrote for Newsbusters at the time.

LifeNews blogger Ryan Bomberger later discovered that Rhimes sits on the board of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles.

Now, Rhimes will sit on the abortion group’s national board, too.

Elle reports Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards recently asked Rhimes to join the national board. Richards said the ABC network show creator really “impressed” her.

“… what she brings not only to this board, but frankly to the world, is her commitment to lift up the stories of people who don’t always get heard, whether it’s in the way she talks about LGBT issues or women’s reproductive health care or [the way she] centers people of color on television,” Richards told the magazine.

Rhimes said she accepted the position because she “really admires” Richards and her work. She said she never went to Planned Parenthood herself, but she has supported it for many years.

“The fact is that women’s health is under fire right now,” Rhimes said. “And so to me, it feels like it’s important to help fight back.

“Most people, I think, have accepted that it’s not up to them to control other people’s choices, except, it seems, when it comes to Washington, D.C., where everyone has an opinion about people’s uteruses,” she added.
Planned Parenthood is still the nation's top abortion provider, with more than 300,000 unborn babies never making it out of their clinics every single year. Their non-abortion services, which their supporters herald as an essential offering to women nationwide, is actually in decline.

Data from the abortion group’s own reports show a growing focus on abortions and a continuous decrease in its non-abortion services. From 2009 to 2014, “cancer screenings” dropped from 1,830,811 to just 682,208. “Breast exams/breast care” fell by more than half, from 830,312 in 2009 to 363,803 in 2014 and Pap smear tests dropped nearly two-thirds, from 904,820 to 271,539.

In that same time period, Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers remained steady, hovering around 320,000 per year.
That may be why  Planned Parenthood is so focused on bringing in Hollywood to their board of directors. They need some star power to distract from the facts.
